Portage Park District Board Expands
 The Portage Park District Board of Commissioners
has taken advantage of a change in the Ohio Revised Code that allows
County Park District Boards to expand from three to five members, and
have voted to request Probate Court Judge Thomas J. Carnes to appoint two new
members. "We felt the Park District could benefit by gaining additional
members with the knowledge and experience that will complement our existing
Board", said Park Board President Gary Cross, "the Park District has tremendous
potential to benefit Portage County now and into the future; this is a great
opportunity for the right people to make a contribution that will last for
generations".
Park Districts and Metroparks are governed by
section 1545 of the Ohio Revised Code. Board members are appointed by the Chief
Justice of the County Probate Court, and serve 3 -year terms without
compensation. The mission of the Portage Park District is to conserve Portage
County's natural and cultural heritage. The Park District operates
Towner's Woods, Dix Park, The PORTAGE Hike and Bike Trail, Headwaters Trail and
Camp Spelman, as well as owning four other properties not yet open to the
