GOALS
- Preserve and enhance existing bike and hike trails
- Create connections from Trails and Greenways to Village center, neighborhoods, schools, Township centers
- Provide greater public access to the Cuyahoga River
- Preserve farmland and where feasible link trails with existing farmland to expand green infrastructure, preserve scenic views,
wild life habitat areas, and add educational opportunities about value of agriculture.
- Preserve Cuyahoga River Corridor Preserve Scenic Corridor along SR 44
OPPORTUNITIES
- Local involvement and partnerships
to make help create and maintain this infrastructure, including the Boy
Scouts, Businesses & Civic Groups and Organizations
- Gravel mining areas can be used for
future recreation (and or homesites) after reclamation Lots of
gravel mines by Cuyahoga River in Shalersville
- Burt Morgan property in Shalersville -possible donations from the [Gund] Foundation to connect trails
- Horseback riding Trails
- Canoe launch exists at Village Park, 2 walking trails in park
- Parking Lot being developed behind McDonalds in Village
- Easement behind Edie Benner’s business to connect to trail North of Mill between SR44 and bridge
- Buckeye Trail runs through area-not well publicized. Could tie in to trail and capitalize on it more.
- Historic downtown Mantua Village
- Historic Grainery for sale-could be outdoor sports/outfitting store, and more.
- Cuyahoga River, Scenic River
- Buckeye Pipeline Easement (identified on
map) could provide potential connections to Middle School, High School
to Main St. Main St. to Tanks in the Park

- Connect Prospect to east-Trail Parking Lot
- Trails to connect schools in Mantua Township and Mantua Village
- Possibility of connecting John Edwards Drive to the south, to connect cemetery and bike and hike trail.
- Need to keep the river clear (south of Village?) for canoes/kayaks
- Expand existing bike/hike trail west toward Aurora.
- Need bike lane all the way up SR 44 to Lake Erie and Southward as well.
- Preserve the rural corridor and focus
development at the nodes of Mantua Village, Mantua Corners,
Mantua Center, Shalersville Center.
- No visual clutter, pole signs, billboards along the scenic corridor.
- Other outdoor recreation needs
- Skateboard park
- Ballfields/soccer fields
- Mountain biking (Buckeye Pipeline easement)
- Several areas on map east side of Village and in Mantua Twp identified for potential such parks.
- It was noted there were no motor sports parks
- These above uses and user groups should
not be located by the River or Hike and Bike Trails, but at other
facilities.
- Horseback riding trails
- Outdoor Store like Appalachian Outfitters-in Old Granery
- Rent and sell bikes, kayaks, cross country ski’s
- Could make connections with Camp Hi-Hazeletts for canoeing (also opportunity)
