April 27:        Bike Planning Meeting  Our regional transportation planning agency, AMATS, is hosting a public meeting to gain input for plans for bicycle transportation in Summit and Portage Counties.  Make your voice heard! April 28:        Middle Cuyahoga Watershed Action Plan Meeting.  Learn about efforts to preserve and improve the water quality and habitats in the Middle Cuyahoga Watershed, which includes the section of the Cuyahoga from Lake Rockwell to the Gorge Dam, and the tributaries feeding it, including Plum Creek, Fishcreek and Breakneck Creek, about 25% of Portage County.  The meeting, led by NEFCO, will be held at the Kent Fire Dept Training Room at 10:00 a.m.  For more information, visit www.uptuscwatershed.org/cuy_action_plan.htm

April 30:        Got Drugs? Don’t Flush!  The Portage County Water Resources Department is hosting a pharmaceutical collection from 10-2:00 at the Water Resources Lab at 8116 Infirmary Rd. Ravenna.  This effort is aimed at preventing leftover prescription and over-the-counter medicines from polluting our waterways and drinking water supplies. 

May 3: Dix Park Wildflower Hike:  The spring wildflowers should be making a great show at this time.  Join the Park District and the Ohio Native Plant Society on this guided hike 6:00 p.m. at Dix Park, SR 44 Ravenna and learn about the diversity of beautiful woodland wildflowers that appear briefly each spring.

May 6-7:      E-Recycling and shredding.  Don’t throw it away, recycle!  The City of Streetsboro and Cell Phones for Cancer LLC are partnering to help you get rid of your unused electronic equipment and paper by safely and securely recycling it in the USA. This saves energy and prevents toxic chemicals from getting into our environment. Collection will be held from 10-3:00 each day at the Streetsboro Police Department, 2080 SR 303. 

May 21:        River Day  Presented by Friends of the Crooked River and many partners, this annual event offers a variety of ways to learn about and celebrate the Cuyahoga River!  For more information visit the web site at www.cuyahogariver.net/riverday.htm

May 20:        Bike to Work Day:  It’s healthy for you and the planet, and it saves money!  What a great way to start and end the work day.  For more information see the League of American Bicyclists at www.bikeleague.org/programs/bikemonth/

July 9:           Headwaters Adventure Race and Fitness Walk, Buchert Park, Mantua Village:  Save the Date!  Join this fun event presented by the Portage Park District Foundation that showcases the beautiful landscapes of northern Portage County, and supports trails and watershed conservation.  Run (or walk) 2 miles on the Headwaters Trail, cycle 10 miles to Camp Hi Canoe Livery, paddle 10 miles on the beautiful Upper Cuyahoga Scenic River back to Buchert Park.  Includes some adventures!  Participate in the Fitness Walk portion only, or in the race as part of a team or solo.  Registration begins in Mid-May so start training!
